I’m going to be taking the server that hosts this website down for an upgrade today. Expect perhaps an hour of downtime, most of which is going to involve me waiting for the VPS to re-provision and setting up LetsEncrypt again. I’ll update this again when it’s done.

Come to think of it, this is something of a quaint thing in today’s world of cloud services, distributed object storage and whatnot. But this little VPS is still the most practical way for me to host this even today. Nobody cares about some brief downtime for an ill-read and rarely updated personal blog. And the underlying host is cheap and I can use it for some occasional other light work. While I’m sure setting up Route53 and S3 to do the same job in AWS is more impressive to today’s recruiters and more practical for static site hosting where scaling and uptime matter, I think I’m going stay with ‘single host running a single webserver’ approach for now. It’s handy just having a box on the Internet.
